Specsavers launches new myopia management products for children in UK & ROI

SPECSAVERS has launched new myopia management products for children in the UK and the Republic of Ireland after investing in training for its clinicians.

Clinicians and retail colleagues in Specsavers’ community practices have undertaken training, including online learning and roadshows, to enable them to recommend and prescribe myopia management glasses and contact lenses based on patients’ individual circumstances and clinical needs.

‘At Specsavers we’re always striving for clinical excellence. Our national launch of myopia management is another demonstration of our passion for clinical growth and care,’ says Paul Gough, Specsavers Head of Ophthalmic Lenses and Dispensing.

‘To ensure our colleagues are able to offer the best possible advice and care to customers we have a very comprehensive accreditation process for all clinicians and retail colleagues, which must be completed before supplying myopia management products to customers.’

He adds that the accredited colleagues can make tailored recommendations, with Specsavers also working with suppliers to ensure great value for patients.

‘We know that children, like adults, are all individual. That’s why we’ve launched two new myopia management products, with both glasses and contact lens options for myopia management. We will help children, and their parents, select the right solution for them,’ says Mr Gough.

Registered Optometrists or Dispensing Optician can prescribe both our new products. Retail colleague training is to ensure they have an understanding and are knowledgeable about myopia management and the products available – if a patient is interested they would be booked in with a suitably qualified clinician.

We have worked closely with both Hoya and CooperVision to ensure all areas have been covered including myopia and mechanisms to manage myopia, risk factors, product knowledge and effective communication.
