“Claudia Schiffer by Rodenstock” launches at the Opti 2014 in Munich
Three months after officially announcing the cooperation, Claudia Schiffer and Rodenstock present their very first collection.
Creative Director Claudia takes her inspiration from the sixties and seventies with the designs of the collection reflecting Claudia´s understated and modern yet timeless style, as well as her love of vintage. The collection encompasses eight sunglasses and nine optical styles each in four varying colourways. They refresh vintage shapes with a modern colour accent, ranging from shades of transparent colour such as rose pink to elegant tortoiseshell, classic black, burgundy and dark green.
As well as trying to create beautiful frames it was important for Claudia to work with the best lenses. In Rodenstock she found the perfect partner. Pioneers in leading eyewear technology and with over 135 years of tradition, experience and associated know-how together with highest Eyewear design expertise Rodenstock have established themselves as one of the most important manufacturers of high-tech lenses and frames. Together Claudia and Rodenstock have developed a collection of truly premium eyewear.
The “Claudia Schiffer by Rodenstock” collection will roll out globally from January 2014 at opticians and retailers.
Overview of the collection
Claudia often chooses big and oversized frames which are captured in the designs of this collection. Sunglasses model Birch comes with a material-intensive frame and elegant graduated tint lenses. With the optical frame itself being very prominent, the colours of Conifer are more subtle. Rose pink and brown can be styled easily into any outfit. For the purists, the transparent acetate option is the perfect match.
Aviator styles and modern shapes also characterise the collection. Of all the sunglasses, the Apple model stands out in particular with an interesting mix of materials and colours. The front is made of translucent light green acetate that creates a striking contrast to the dark blue temples and mirrored lenses. Transparent acetate is key focus of the correction frame Poplar: The lightest shade of pink combined with round lenses and a key-hole bridge is very striking. Hazel and Linden on the other hand are more understated. Hazel is strong in a deep burgundy while Linden’s surface is characterised by discrete wood pattern.
New materials, colours and modified shapes overall complement the vintage shapes and elevate them to a modern day look. With Willow sunglasses and the complementary corrective style Maple the front is developed with transparent acetate, contrasting comfortably with the metal temples. A classic outstretched end piece provides an elegant transition from front to temples.
Each style is named after a tree. Nature was also the source of ideas for several designs in terms of surfaces such as the wood effect and colours as well as the packaging.
Claudia Schiffer is recognised throughout the world as a supermodel, fashion and beauty icon, and business woman. Currently developing her brand business, Claudia is the creative director of the brand and the driving force behind its design.
